A crown in simple terms is a ‘Cap’ shaped to fit over a prepared tooth. A crown is used to restore and protect damaged teeth, cracked or broken teeth to look like any other natural teeth. Long gone are the days of bulky annoying crowns with advancements in dentistry and using good dental laboratories we can build crowns that work, feel and look natural you will forget that you even have a crown.
A crown is recommended to patients where the tooth cannot simply be repaired by using filling or you have had a root canal treatment done and require strengthening of the tooth. Crowns are also used for cosmetic reasons to improve the aesthetics of your smile if you have damaged teeth.
A crown would take 2 appointments. On your first visit the tooth would need to be prepared and impressions taken that would need to be sent to the dental laboratory to prepare the crown.
A temporary crown will be fitted till your next appointment is due. Your second appointment will be in 2 weeks’ time where the dentist will fit your specially crafted crown to fit your tooth and some minor adjustments made to make it perfect for your bite.
