Dentures have been used for many years to replace missing teeth. Dentures are removable false teeth made of acrylic (plastic) or metal. They fit snugly over the gums to replace missing teeth and eliminate potential problems caused by gaps so that you can enjoy a healthy diet and smile with confidence.
There are two types of dentures a complete denture and a partial denture. A complete denture is used when all your teeth are missing. A partial denture will replace one or few missing teeth.
Dentures normally require between 4 to 5 appointments all set one week apart. During your first appointment the dentist will do a thorough examination of your mouth and explain the type of denture suitable for your requirements and explain to you about the costings. Some of your teeth may also require extraction, the dentist will then need to take an impression of your gums which will be given to our dental laboratory where a dental technician will fabricate your dentures to fit the contours of your mouth exactly.
Dentures need good care and attention for them to last a long time. You should always remove your dentures when you go to sleep. They need to be cleaned and soaked overnight, this will also give your gums some rest from the denture and be exposed to your natural saliva. Over time due to wear and tear, shrinkage of gums your denture may become loose and you should visit a dentist to have them realigned or in some cases re-made. A loose denture can cause all sorts of health problems from sores to making eating and talking difficult.
